History:
Early in 1934, a group of teachers from the Dubuque Community Schools met to begin the process of organizing a credit union to serve what they perceived as an underserved, dedicated, and stable group of employees with a great financial need not being fully met by the financial community of Dubuque.
The actual organization began in May 1934 with a small group of teachers which had grown to 55 members with total deposits of $390.00 including the $0.25 individual membership fee. Lester Becker became the first treasurer who would serve until September 1969.
In January 1942 the by-laws were amended to include all Dubuque School system employees with an annual contract. In 1962 members were allowed to retain membership if they left school system employment and in 1966 members were allowed to continue a loan relationship if they left the school system employment.
In 1969 Ted Stapleton became the second Treasurer of the Credit Union
In 1970 Payroll Deduction with the Dubuque School System was instituted and in 1975 the Credit Union began to offer Life Savings along with Loan Protection insurance.
In October 1976, Sally Miller became President/Treasurer and at that time the Credit Union had 341 members and assets of $183,045 of which $35,000 was borrowed.
In 1978, Share Savings Insurance was provided by the National Credit Union Association. In that same year; Loras College, Clarke College, and the University of Dubuque were added to the field of membership. In 1982, Western Dubuque Schools and Keystone Area Education Association were added to the field of membership. In 1984, all public and parochial school were added to the field of membership followed by adding all member of the JDC to membership in 1988.
In May of 1986, the office was moved from the President's home to Kennedy Court West and a second employee was added.
Credit Union services like ATM Cards, Share Draft Accounts, and ACH - Automated Clearing House electronic transactions were added as the Credit Union continued to grow.
In 2005 the office at 1200 Associates Drive was opened as a result of a CUSO (Credit Union Service Organization) formed with Alliant Credit Union and Health Services Credit Union.
